“Boarding for the flight from Lima to New York starts in 10 minutes. Please have your.. “
Blaine zoomed out. He wasn’t ready for this. And yet, there he was. At the airport with Finn, Rachel, Burt, Carole and Kurt.
Kurt. His lovely, amazing, talented, beautiful Kurt.
He watched as Kurt hugged Carole and whispered something in her ear. She laughed and shook her head before she leaned in to press a short kiss to Kurt’s cheek.
Kurt then turned to his father and Blaine saw the pained expression on Burt’s face.
His own eyes watered automatically and he knew he was wearing the same expression.
Burt opened his arms and Kurt stepped into them. They hugged for a while and Blaine saw how Burt pressed a kiss on Kurt’s forehead.
“I’ll miss you, kiddo. Call as soon as you’re in New York ok?”
They looked at each other for a short moment before Kurt hugged his father one more time.
“Thank you.” was all he said.
“Anything for you.”
Burt smiled then and looked over Kurt’s shoulder, right into Blaine’s eyes.
Kurt slowly turned around and it took all of Blaine’s willpower not to break down.
Their bodies were pressed together within seconds.
Arms slung around each other, faces buried in the curves of their necks.
Blaine could feel Kurt tremble and he knew that Kurt was crying.
“Kurt…” was all he managed to say before his voice broke and his own tears were running down his cheeks.
“I don’t want to go, Blaine.”
“I don’t want you to go.”
“Then don’t make me. Say that I should stay and I will. “
Blaine shook his head and pulled Kurt impossibly closer to his body.
None of them cared about the strange looks from people passing by, none of them cared about where they were. Nothing mattered except them. And their last minutes together.
“Don’t Kurt, please. Don’t do this to me. This is your dream. I couldn’t make you choose between me and your dreams. “
Kurt’s fingers dug into Blaine’s back.
“I’ll miss you, so much.”
“I’ll miss you too.”
They stayed like this for what seemed like forever.
None of them willing to let go yet.
“Guys, I’m sorry but.. Kurt. We need to go now or we’ll miss our flight.”
Rachel’s voice came to them from far away and their bubble of togetherness bursted.
Blaine swallowed hard. This was it. This was the moment both of them tried to ignore for so long.
He could hear Kurt inhaling deeply and he copied Kurt as he took a last long sniff. A desperate attempt to memorize Kurt’s sweet scent.
Kurt leaned away and pressed their foreheads together.
“I love you.”
Blaine closed his eyes.
“I love you.”
He could feel Kurt’s warm, soft lips on his and pressed his eyes hard together.
A small sob escaped his lips as he tasted Kurt’s tears, mixed with his own.
“Open your eyes, Blaine.” Kurt whispered into the kiss and Blaine obeyed.
Their eyes locked. Hazel on Blue.
“Remember, this is not a goodbye. I wait for you. I’ll always do.”
And with a last, short kiss Kurt turned around and left.
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
